Physics UNPAR Welcomes Educational Visit from Santa Ursula Junior High School Bandung

Bandung, May 21, 2026 — The Physics Study Program of Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) welcomed an educational visit from students of Santa Ursula Junior High School Bandung. The activity aimed to introduce physics in a contextual and engaging manner while broadening students’ understanding of how physics is applied in everyday life, particularly in the healthcare sector.

The visit began with a Quizizz game as an ice-breaking activity, followed by a short presentation on ultrasonography (USG), including its basic principles and applications. The students were also introduced to the Physics Study Program at UNPAR, learning about the academic environment, student activities, and the various areas of specialization available to physics students. The participants were then divided into two groups: one group took part in hands-on science experiments organized by Bengkel Sains (Science Workshop), while the other participated in a treasure-hunting activity using ultrasound technology.

Understanding the Principles of Ultrasonography (USG)

One of the main highlights of the visit was an introduction to Ultrasonography (USG) technology. Through an interactive presentation, students learned how ultrasound utilizes high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures inside the human body. The Physics UNPAR team explained the fundamental physics concepts underlying this technology, including wave propagation, frequency, wave reflection (echo), and the signal-processing techniques used to generate diagnostic medical images.

Presented in a simple and visually engaging manner, the session helped students understand how physics concepts learned in the classroom are applied in real-world healthcare settings. It is hoped that this activity will inspire greater interest in applied physics while increasing awareness of the important role physics plays in the advancement of modern medical technology.

Exploring Everyday Physics through Simple Science Experiments

In addition to the academic sessions, the event featured an interactive and engaging Science Workshop. During this activity, students were introduced to simple physics experiments that demonstrate scientific principles found in everyday life. These experiments included the Thomson Ring, the Nail Chair, and the Honesty Water experiment.

Through these hands-on demonstrations, students gained a deeper appreciation of how physics can explain everyday phenomena and how scientific thinking can be both educational and enjoyable.

Inspiring Interest and Curiosity in Science

Through this visit, the Physics Study Program at UNPAR hopes to provide a meaningful and inspiring learning experience for the students of Santa Ursula Junior High School. The activity not only introduced physics as a scientific discipline but also highlighted its role as a tool for innovation, creativity, and positive contributions to society.

The Physics Study Program at UNPAR remains committed to building partnerships with secondary schools through educational visits, workshops, and science outreach activities as part of its ongoing efforts to foster a generation of young people who are curious, critical thinkers and enthusiastic about science.
