Center for Theoretical Physics Studies

The Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP) – UNPAR was inaugurated on November 29, 2019, and is the first university-based Center for Theoretical Physics in Indonesia.

The inauguration was officiated by the Rector of Parahyangan Catholic University and attended by the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Dr. L.T. Handoko, who also delivered a scientific oration titled “Research Ecosystem in the 4.0 Era.” On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Parahyangan Catholic University and LIPI in the field of research. One form of collaboration established through this MoU is the utilization of LIPI’s research facilities by the UNPAR academic community.

The establishment of the Center for Theoretical Physics represents an important recognition for the Physics Study Program at UNPAR. The idea for the center was initiated by Haryanto M. Siahaan, Ph.D. (at the time a PhD student in Canada) and Paulus Cahyono Tjiang, Ph.D. Haryanto, who dreamed of Indonesia one day having its own Institute of Theoretical Physics—possibly under UNPAR—was advised by Dr. Paulus Tjiang to begin by establishing a Center for Theoretical Physics.

Within approximately two years, the center has produced eight international publications in Q1-ranked journals (according to the Scientific Journal Ranking, SJR), credited under the affiliation: “Center for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics, Parahyangan Catholic University, Jl. Ciumbuleuit 94, Bandung 40141, Indonesia.”

The eight publications are:

  1. H. M. Siahaan, “Hidden conformal symmetry for the accelerating Kerr black holes,” Classical and Quantum Gravity 35, no. 15, 155002 (2018).
  2. H. M. Siahaan, “Accelerating black holes in the low energy heterotic string theory,” Physics Letters B 782, 594 (2018).
  3. R. Primulando and P. Uttayarat, “Dark Matter-Neutrino Interaction in Light of Collider and Neutrino Telescope Data,” Journal of High Energy Physics 1806, 026 (2018).
  4. H. M. Siahaan, “Destroying extremal magnetized black holes,” Physical Review D 96, no. 2, 024016 (2017).
  5. R. Primulando and P. Uttayarat, “Probing Lepton Flavor Violation at the 13 TeV LHC,” Journal of High Energy Physics 1705, 055 (2017).
  6. C. Bernard, “Analytical Study of a Kerr-Sen Black Hole and a Charged Massive Scalar Field,” Physical Review D 96, no. 10, 105025 (2017).
  7. C. Bernard, “Stationary charged scalar clouds around black holes in string theory,” Physical Review D 94, no. 8, 085007 (2016).
  8. H. M. Siahaan, “Magnetized Kerr/CFT Correspondence,” Classical and Quantum Gravity 33, no. 15, 155013 (2016).

Currently, the Center for Theoretical Physics at UNPAR is chaired by Sylvia Hastuti Susanto, Ph.D. The center remains committed to consistently producing international publications in Q1-ranked journals (Scientific Journal Ranking, SJR) under the affiliation “Center for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics, Parahyangan Catholic University.” It is expected that through the Center for Theoretical Physics, a significant impact can be made on theoretical physics research at the global level.
